The author's summary of this book is: "Deputy Frank Smirnov wants a peaceful life but fate has chosen a different path. He could never have imagined a course that not only gives him insight to his past but to the true origins of the human race. NSA Agent Zachariah Allmass' job is to eliminate those who know too much, and those "Beings" with powers untold that have elected to remain hidden for all these millenniums, now possess evidence he needs for his true employer, the Committee. But Allmass has an agenda of his own. Meanwhile, Roman Petrov is a violent man who puts his retirement on temporary hiatus after being left with collateral damage that leaves him no choice but to eliminate the "thorn in his side". When these men's worlds collide, secrets that were never meant to be exposed will shake the very foundation of mankind's existence."

I am quoting the author's summary directly, because I wouldn't be able to summarize it myself. There's UFOs, bigfoot, Neanderthals, menacing Russians and hooligans, references to several conspiracy theories, and nothing compelling going on. This book just isn't that interesting or well written. It starts slow, goes off on a few tangents, and becomes barely readable pretty quickly. I "read" the whole book, but my eyes started glazing over as it became more and more difficult to stay interested, and by the end I was just forcing myself through. I tried to get interested, but about a quarter of the way in it starts to read like "this happened, then that happened, then this happened, then that happened", with no interesting mystery or structure to attach these events to which would give them significance or make them memorable. There's conflict in all the wrong places, like when a detective is interviewing someone who found a body. The witness is rude and difficult and it goes on and on, then he's out of the book. If there was a central thread to the book that you could follow, this would be a distraction from it, but as it is, it's just filler.

There's a well written sentence here, an interesting detail there, but overall I just couldn't get into it. I should mention that it has a 4 star rating on Amazon currently, so my opinion may be in the minority.

My rating: 2/5
